Setting up the Omega HOSTS File

When you first start using ProphetDirect®, you must edit the HOSTS file on your computer system. This file tells your computer how to locate a particular server on the Internet.

You will need to add these lines to the HOSTS file:

207.33.55.209    dd.tdc.com
207.33.55.209    dd1.tdc.com
207.33.55.209    dial.tdc.com
207.33.55.209    dial1.tdc.com

Where is the HOSTS File?

First, locate the file, and second, you'll need to change and save the file. The location of the file depends on your operating system:

* For Windows XP, the location is:

   C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS

* For Windows 2000 and Windows NT systems, the location is:

   C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS

* If you are using Windows 98, the location is:

   C:\WINDOWS

Editing the HOSTS File

If you are an experienced computer user, you may already know how to edit text files and can use any editor that you like. But if editing a file is somewhat unfamiliar to you, follow these steps:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Programs > Accessories > Notepad to bring up the Notepad text editor.

  2. In Notepad, choose the File menu and click on Open. A dialog box will appear to help you find your HOSTS file. Near the bottom of the dialog box is a dropdown menu that says "Files of type:". Choose "All Files" from this dropdown menu.

  3. Browse your disks until you find the HOSTS file. Once you find it, double-click on HOSTS to bring it into the Notepad screen.

  4. Enter a line so it looks like this:

       207.33.55.209     dd.tdc.com

It does not matter where in the file it is. It can be the first line, the last line, or anywhere in between. Do the same with any other lines in this file.

  5. Choose the File menu and select the Exit item. Before Notepad closes, it asks if you want to save the changes to the file. Click "Yes."

Change your DD_INET.OMS file

The other change you need to make is to a file in your Omega DATAMAN directory called DD_INET.OMS

  1. In Notepad, choose the File menu and click on Open. A dialog box will appear to help you find your DD_INET.OMS file. Near the bottom of the dialog box is a dropdown menu that says "Files of type:". Choose "All Files" from this dropdown menu.

  2. Browse your disks until you find the DD_INET.OMS file. This file is located in the same directory as where you installed your Omega software. It is in the DATAMAN subdirectory. For instance, if you installed your software in C:\OMEGA, the file is in C:\OMEGA\DATAMAN. Once you find it, double-click on DD_INET.OMS to bring it into the Notepad screen.

  3. The first line reads something like this:

       SetHosts("dd.tdc.com,dd1.tdc.com")

change this line so it instead reads:

    For SuperCharts:
       SetHosts("dial.tdc.com,dial1.tdc.com")

    For TraderStation 2000:
       SetHosts("dial,dial1")

  4. Choose the File menu and select the Exit item. Before Notepad closes, it asks if you want to save the changes to the file. Click "Yes."
